Parbhani is the district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Parbhani, formerly known as "Prabhavatinagar". Parbhani has its share in Hindu mythology. The Hindu saint who is considered to be the reincarnation of the God Dattatraya in Hindu mythology, Shri Shirdi Saibaba was said to be born in this district at a place called Pathri - about 40 km from Parbhani.
Pilgrimage tourism in Parbhani district involves visiting the various temples situated here. A number of these temples are ancient constructs, such as the 900 year old 'Shree Mudgaleshwar Temple' at the bank of Godavari River, Jain Pilgrimage in Jintur, Mrityunjaya Pardeshwar Temple(Mercury Shivalinga) etc. These temples are visited by a number of devotees from near and far. Apart from these temples, there is also a place of Muslim worship, namely The Syed Shah Turabul Haque Dargah, found located in Parbhani district.
Janabai was erected at Gangakhed. Ranisawargaon is located 18 km from Gangakhed, where an ancient temple of lord Renukamata was founded by lord Parshuram. A famous sweet named as ?Kalam" is made at Gangakhed, which is made up of Khoa and Sugar.
An ancient Jain Temple is situated 3 kilometers north of Jintur called Nemgiri. This has seven caves and Idols of Bhagvan Mahaveer, Bhagvan Adinath, Bhagvan Shantinath, Bhagvan Neminath, Bhagvan Parshwanath, Nandishwar and Bhagvan Bahubali. Bhagvan Neminath idol is the largest Padmasanastha Idol and Bhagvan Parshwanath Idol is rested on a small stone of about 3 to 4 inches diameter. This idol is about 6 feet tall. It is an old temple and for last 400 years it has been maintained by the Sawji (Kalamkar) family.
A holy place Pokharni is situated on southern side, which is 19 km from Parbhani city is located where a temple of lord Narsimha is present.
The famous temple called "Pardeshwar" is situated in the city. In this temple the shivlinga is built by using mercury. In Marathi language, mercury is called "para" so its name Pardeshwar temple. The weight of this Lingam is 2.5 quintal. The founder of this temple is "1008 Mahamandaleshwar Swami Satchchitanand Saraswati".
It is located on the bank of Godavari river. Temple is in the midst of river. temple in middle of rivre flow is more than 900 years old. Same is written on stone script at entrance. Temple on river bank and old ghat was built by "Ahilya Bai"250 years back. During rainy season the temple will get immersed in water. To have darshan one has to swim to the temple. Best time to visit is summer season i.e from April to June. The temple is managed by Shri Sahebrao Mudgalkar and Shri Subhashrao Mudgalkar. The Shivaratri is celebrated here every year. All type of pujas are performed here. Nagbali and Sukhshanti pujas are very famous. The temple campus has a Mango Farm which consists of 4000 Mango Trees.
Nemagiri is Holy place for Jains. The wonderful Bhgvan Parshwanth idol is situated on 1.5 inch diameter stone. The idol is about 6 feet made in Black stone. It is wonderul place where you will find Bhagvan Neminath and Bhagvan Shantinath huge idols. This place is the birth place of Shri Sant Saibaba Maharaj. Sai Baba Maharaj one of the temple at Shirdi.
Godavari is only main river in the district. Dudhana and Purna are other sub-rivers of Godavari. The length of the river is 79 km in the district and flows from west to east through Pathri, Gangakhed and Palam talukas and enters in to Nanded district.
A sub river of Godavari, Dudhana flows in Selu, Jintur, Parbhani and Purna talukas and enters to Hingoli district. A Yeldari dam is constructed on Purna river at Jintur taluka of the district.
Shelgaon is one of the very famous and old religious place situated in sonpeth taluka. here is famous temple of shree vishnu. This place has great importance as Kashi Varanasi. Also if u have plan to meet Godavari river is also known as on of the most famous river in India, If you want to see good look of Godavai then visit Lohigram this place is situated 6 KM long from Shelgaon.
The temple of Saibaba, which is also known as Shirdi Saibaba Janmshtan Mandir, is located at Pathri, close to Parbhani in Selu Town. Selu is the town where Sai Baba lived with his guru, Shri Babasaheb Maharaj, for twelve years. The place is also considered as his birth place and the place of his meeting with his guru.
Syed Shah turabul Haque was a great muslim saint of Parbhani district. He was a disciple of great Maharashtrian saint Shri Samarth Ramdas Swami. He translate a marathi scripture of Samarth Ramdas known as ?Das Bodh" in urdu language. Since last 350 years the hindu and Muslims pilgrims came here at pilgrimage, which will be celebrated in the period of 31st January to 2nd February.
A Tridhara is located 12 km from Parbhani. It is called as Tridhara because a confluence of 3 rivers at that place. The Sangam at Rudraprayag is spectacular, surrounded as it by the huge rocky type faces.
It is a popular picnic spot where streams meet in a junction. It is the confluance of the river Godavari, Narmada and Purna.
Yeldari Dam was built as a small hydel power station, built on River Purna. Later, the dam was renovated and developed as a very big reservoir and also tourist attraction spot in the Jintur Taluqa in Parbhani district of Maharashtra.
